During the ACI Africa 2026 conference in Luanda, ACI Africa President Fabrice Grondin highlighted the growing cost pressures in the aviation sector.

The rise in fuel prices is directly impacting the operations of airlines and airports, and market uncertainty is expected to persist at least until the summer season.

Regions dependent on a limited number of markets, such as La Réunion, where approximately 60% of traffic is connected to mainland France, are particularly affected. Rising operating costs are driving up ticket prices, including through the introduction of fuel surcharges.

Higher insurance costs and operations over high-risk areas are also a burden, further increasing financial pressure on the industry. As a result, the sector’s recovery may prove more difficult and slower than previously anticipated.

Industry representatives are hoping for a stabilization, but current conditions indicate continued volatility and challenges for the global aviation market.
