Marriott International has announced the opening of The Cape Town EDITION, the first hotel from the EDITION brand in Africa.
The 142-room property is located at Quay 7 on Cape Town’s V&A Waterfront, overlooking the working harbour, the new superyacht marina and Table Mountain. Marriott described the opening as a milestone in the brand’s international expansion and positioned the hotel as a base for exploring the city’s cultural, culinary and waterfront attractions. The hotel includes 142 guestrooms and suites, including a 240-square-metre Penthouse and a 112-square-metre Harbour Suite. Its design by Neri&Hu, developed with Cape Town-based architects and professional firms, draws on the industrial character of the historic harbour. More than six million bricks were reportedly laid by hand across the building’s exterior.
Food and beverage facilities include Shale, a signature restaurant focused on South African producers; EAVE, a rooftop restaurant and bar beside a heated pool; the Lobby Bar; and Punch Room, an intimate venue centred on shared punch bowls. The hotel’s wellness facilities include a spa below sea level with five treatment rooms, a couples’ suite, sauna and steam room, as well as a 24-hour gym.
The property also offers yoga, breathwork and sound-bath sessions, alongside meeting and event facilities. Its ballroom can accommodate up to 200 people, with additional event spaces available for receptions, private dining and rooftop gatherings.
The opening adds a new international luxury brand to the V&A Waterfront, one of Cape Town’s main visitor districts. The hotel is expected to target both international visitors and local residents through its restaurants, bars, cultural programming and public-facing spaces.
