Thai Vietjet Air has launched a new daily service between Kuala Lumpur International Airport and Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport. The Tourism Authority of Thailand welcomed the inaugural flight on 9 October, describing it as the airline’s first direct service to Malaysia.

Flight VZ681 departs Kuala Lumpur at 15:15 and arrives in Bangkok at 16:30. The return service, VZ680, leaves Bangkok at 11:00 and reaches Kuala Lumpur at 14:10. The route is operated with Boeing 737-8 aircraft carrying 189 passengers.

The inaugural flights carried 171 passengers on each sector, representing a reported load factor of 90%. The daily schedule gives Malaysian travellers greater flexibility for holidays, weekend breaks and repeat visits to Thailand.

Malaysia is one of Thailand’s most important regional tourism markets — TAT said 3,006,730 Malaysian visitors arrived in the country between 1 January and 7 October 2026. Malaysian travellers visit Bangkok and the southern border provinces, as well as destinations including Phuket, Krabi, Chiang Rai and Kanchanaburi.

TAT said the new service would support several tourism segments, including family travel, shopping, wellness, culture and local experiences. The organisation will work with Thai Vietjet, Malaysian travel agents and tourism businesses to promote the route and encourage visitors to travel beyond Bangkok.

A trade familiarisation trip will take place from 12–16 October, with representatives from 12 Malaysian travel companies visiting Bangkok, Ayutthaya, Nakhon Pathom and Samut Songkhram.

The launch adds daily capacity between two major Southeast Asian cities and strengthens Thailand’s access to the Malaysian market ahead of the winter travel season.
