The Azerbaijan Tourism Board and the Pacific Asia Travel Association have signed a memorandum of understanding aimed at expanding Azerbaijan’s presence in Asia-Pacific tourism markets.
The agreement was signed in Baku on 29 October by PATA chief executive Noor Ahmad Hamid and Azerbaijan Tourism Board chief executive Florian Sengstschmid. The signing took place during the PATA Hosted Buyers Summit Baku 2026, organised by the State Tourism Agency of Azerbaijan, the Azerbaijan Tourism Board and PATA.
More than 50 tourism professionals from China, Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, Japan and South Korea attended the summit. They met Azerbaijani tourism businesses through B2B sessions designed to develop commercial partnerships and raise awareness of the destination among Asian travel sellers.
The memorandum focuses on promoting Azerbaijan across Asia-Pacific markets, strengthening cooperation with tourism organisations and media, and encouraging the exchange of knowledge and industry expertise. It does not announce a new air route, visa agreement or guaranteed visitor target.
The summit programme also included visits beyond Baku to Shamakhi, Gabala, Shaki and Gakh. Participants were introduced to Azerbaijan’s Silk Road heritage, mountain and nature tourism, business travel, Umrah Plus programmes and tailored travel experiences. The organisers also explored opportunities for multi-country Caucasus itineraries involving neighbouring destinations.
The agreement forms part of Azerbaijan’s broader effort to build its profile in Asia. The Azerbaijan Tourism Board said the opening of its representative office in Beijing this year had strengthened its presence in the region. The board has been a PATA member since 2019.
For Azerbaijan, the partnership provides access to PATA’s regional network and creates a platform for continued trade engagement, although its commercial impact will depend on follow-up activity, travel-agent sales and improved connectivity.
